Welcome letter from Mary Beth Rizzo-Merlo

July 9, 2021

Dear Monfort families,

I am excited and honored to introduce myself as the new principal of Isaac Monfort Elementary School. My name is Mary Beth Merlo, and I am delighted to have been appointed as the educational leader of the Monfort Elementary community.

I obtained a bachelor's degree in Special Education from Western Michigan University and a master's degree in School Guidance and Counseling from Wayne State University. After holding positions with Utica Community Schools as a special education teacher, junior high counselor, district testing coordinator and Intervention consultant, I wanted to serve the school district as a leader on a greater scope. I earned an Educational Specialist degree in Educational Leadership from Oakland University and have been the principal of DeKeyser Elementary School for the past eleven years.

I have heard wonderful things about the Monfort community, and its tradition of fostering leaders and empowering students to thrive. I am eager to get to know the students, parents, and staff.

As for my educational philosophy, I am passionate about creating a safe and stable community of thinkers, where students are curious, ask questions, and develop a love of learning. I value measuring student success by a strong academic foundation as well as areas of social and personal growth. I am dedicated to establishing a culture where all members feel welcome and work together toward a common goal and purpose.

I am enthusiastic about this upcoming school year and will be sending a newsletter at the beginning of August. In the newsletter, I will share information on upcoming events that allow us to meet. I wish you a safe and enjoyable summer.

Sincerely,

Mary Beth Rizzo-Merlo
